the shepherd centre
Across the country of Uganda, young children are found living and sleeping on the streets. The Shepherd Centre is a Community Based Organization in Kabale, Uganda geared toward reaching these children. The Shepherd Centre recently acquired a home to rent, and is housing 19 of the most needy street children in our area.
A letter from the site director, January 2013:
Dear Friends and Families,
Greetings from the Shepherd Centre. Here are some updates and our plans for January and February.
Christmas went very well. We were able to provide gifts for all the boys and to have a party to which we also invited the boy’s relatives. We all had a wonderful time. Thanks to all who supported us with additional funds to make this happen, in particular, Sean Naus & Kai Coffee, Steve Sando and Sue Peterman. The year ended at Cephas Inn to see an awesome fireworks display with the boys.
I am glad to inform you that we have part of the funds for the poultry farm.
We are in the final stage of construction of the poultry house and we have enough money to purchase chicks. The chicks won’t start laying eggs for five months. We need to raise $2,000.00 to cover the feed until they do start laying eggs, so we won’t bring the chicks in until we have raised enough for feed.
The boys will be reporting back to school toward the end of January.
We have three boys who graduated from primary and will be starting secondary school. To enroll them and provide supplies, we will need:
Scholastic materials $540.00
School fees $1,050.00
Next month, we are required to renew our house lease or else we will have to leave the house. Please help so that we can keep the boys sheltered. House rent is $913. [6 month rate]
All the above are very important and we cannot go on without them. Please help as you feel led. We very much need your support.
Thank you,
Patrick Tushabomwe
